Google Set to Layoff Employees: There Will Be Blood On Streets

Google executives reportedly urged staff to improve productivity or be ready to exit their respective position.

This happened after the giant tech company’s reported quarterly revenue and earnings for April-June were less than anticipated. 

The report shows revenue growth decreased to 13% from 62% in the same quarter last year.

According to an insider report, the Google sales team were pressurize with their position in the company. 

The sales team was informed in a message that “there will be blood on the streets” if the results for the upcoming quarter doesn’t improve.

According to the New York Post, Google employees are terrified of layoffs after the business discreetly expanded its hiring freeze without any official announcement. 

They have received a warning from the corporation that they risk being let go if they don’t improve results.

Sundar Pichai, the CEO, warned staff that they need to increase productivity because of the severe economic challenges. 

Pichai stated that he was looking for suggestions from his team on achieving better outcomes faster. 

He added that there are legitimate concerns that our general performance is not where it ought to be for our numbers.

At Google, operations have not been doing well for a while. The software giant issued a hiring freeze a month ago in light of the current economic slowdown. Workers feared layoffs even though Google didn’t formally address them at the time. This is due to several other Big Tech companies, like Netflix and Microsoft letting go of nearly 2000 employees.

According to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, the corporation has too many people but not enough jobs. 

Additionally, he cautioned staff to work diligently and concentrate more on ways to enhance their products and assist clients. Given its current headcount, Pichai said that Google’s productivity as a corporation isn’t where it should be and forewarned of a deteriorating economic climate.

Fiona Cicconi, the head of human resources, recognized general anxiety about layoffs at Google. 

Furthermore, he insisted that the firm is “not currently trying to cut Google’s overall staff” and emphasized the need for more concentration and efficiency.

According to Fiona, its chief people officer, the Mountain View, California-based company is still hiring. 

Moreover, there are no current plans for employee layoff. As per reports, Cicconi told staff members, “We’re expecting teams to be much more focused and efficient, and we’re sorting out what that entails as a firm. Even if we can’t predict the future economy, we aren’t currently seeking to shrink Google’s overall employment.

According to Sundar Pichai, despite employing 10,000 new Googlers in the 2nd quarter, the company will halt hiring for the remainder of the year. Higher priority will be put on engineering and technical skills. He remarked, “Like any business, we’re not exempted from economic challenges. 

For teams to prioritize their responsibilities and to hire plans for the remainder of the year, Google said the hiring hold announced on Wednesday is a cornerstone of that slowdown. At the end of March, it employed close to 164,000 people.

The corporation is undoubtedly facing a challenging macroeconomic environment with rising future risks. Google halted all hiring in July for a two-week to evaluate its staffing needs and choose its next course of action. Previously, the company said that hiring would be curtailed for the rest of the year.
